Planet Money Inflation Vinyl Record

SKU: NPR23A-A187

In 1975, these young guys walked into Sea-Saint Studios in New Orleans to record a song that captured the economic moment at the time. They called the song, "Inflation." Earnest Jackson wrote the song and is the lead singer. He recorded it with a band called Sugar Daddy and the Gumbo Roux. A very young Randy Jackson (from American Idol) played bass on the song, when he was in high school. But, they never released the song.  In 2022, NPR's Planet Money podcast is trying to give this long lost song a second chance. We’ve created a record label, Planet Money Records, just to release this one song. We documented the whole process and our goal is to make Earnest's song "Inflation" a hit – 47 years after it was recorded. The song is just as relevant and catchy and funky as ever and now and in 2023 the song passed one million streams on Spotify!
